Youth Centre

If you wish to practise sports and play indoor games with the local youth, come to our Youth Centre. It is open every evening, except on Wednesdays, from 4 to 6 p.m. in winter and 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. during the rest of the year. The Department of Education has generously offered us space in the government middle school known as Keshav Bhavan. About thirty young boys and girls play badminton, volleyball, football, cricket, chess, carrom, petanque, and other games there.

Our Dutch friends, Chris and Shyam, came over at Christmas and introduced lots of new games. Since Poonam joined us more girls are coming to the centre. We celebrate all the important festivals like Divali and Holi with the children.

The aim of the Centre is to complement the education they receive in school with personality development. The games and competitions we organise help to develop various abilities like logical thinking, public speaking, sportsmanship, etc. Being open to children from different strata of society, we do our best to fight caste discrimination and violent or dishonest behaviour.

Secondly, we conduct discussions on the need to protect the environment of Orchha. As a result, many young boys and girls have contributed to cleaning and greening the town through the campaign for a 'polythene free Orchha' or by planting trees along the roads.

We now plan to train a few youth in 'theatre for development' so that this medium can be used to spread awareness about environment protection to the whole population.
